Origin of Sauvignon blanc

The origins of Sauvignon Blanc lie in the historic wine regions of France, particularly Bordeaux and the Loire Valley. From early cultivation, the species has spread throughout the world, adapting to different climates and soils. It is one of the parent grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon. It is grown in many wine regions around the world. Some of the most famous regions include the Loire Valley (especially Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé), Bordeaux (where it is often blended with Sémillon), Marlborough, New Zealand (known for its intense and aromatic style) and California (especially in regions such as Napa Valley and Sonoma County).

The style and taste of sauvignon blanc

Sauvignon Blanc wines are characterized by vibrant citrus, tropical fruit and spicy aromas. Common descriptions include grapefruit, lime, green apple, passion fruit and gooseberry. Some Sauvignon Blanc wines also exhibit herbaceous notes such as grass, green pepper and boxwood. Depending on where it is grown and how it is vinified, different styles can be created.
