Chateau Ferriere is after Chateau Pouget one of the smallest Gr. Cru Classés of the 1855 classification. The terroir, located in Margaux, has been in the hands of the Villars-Merlaut family since 1988 and it is Claire Villars (also owner of Chateau Haut Bages Libéral), who is married to Gonzague Lurton (Chateau Durfort Vivens ), who vinifies the wine there. A new cuverie has been in service since 2013 and since millésime 2015 the wine is certified organic. Chateau Ferrière owns 18 hectares of vineyards in Margaux.

In 1992 the first volume was created by his daughter Bernadette Villars-Merlaut. Jacques Merlaut and his family were also the owners of Château Chasse-Spleen, La Gurgue, Haut-Bages Liberale and wine trading company Ginestet. After the death of her parents and the division of the inheritance within the family, Claire Villars took over the wine production from her mother. Claire now owns 4 domaines in the Medoc:

- Château Haut-Bages-Liberale (5th Cru class Pauillac)

- Château Ferriere (3rd Cru class Margaux)

- Château La Gurgue (in the top 10 of typical Margaux wines - nominated by a committee of 50 experts)

- Château Domeyne (Cru Bourgeois, Saint-Estèphe)

The harvest is picked by hand, after which vinification takes place in stainless steel vats equipped with a thermal regularization system. The maceration lasts about 20 days. The 2nd fermentation takes place in barrels. Furthermore, the wine rests from 16 to 18 months in oak barrels, including 60% new oak. The wine is clarified with proteins. Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon (57%), Merlot (34%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (6%). The average age of the vines is 45 years.
