Description
The Encruzado Reserva Quinta da Falorca consists of 95% of the most beautiful white grape from the DaƓ - the Encruzado. This grape has the ability to maintain almost a perfect balance between sugars and acidity. It produces dry, fruity and aromatic wines and is one of Portugal's top white grape varieties. This grape has an extraordinary aging potential and we also see this with this white wine from Quinta da Falorca because this wine can remain in your cellar or wine refrigerator until 2033 without any problems. The wine has matured for 15% in new French oak and 85% in stainless steel and has a perfect alcohol percentage of 13%, which makes the wine elegant.
This is a fine Encruzado, persistent and focused, with good acidity and concentration. The oak here is supportive and not dominant, so it also retains its purity. This Branco from Portugal has developed beautiful aromas of roses, violets, but also of lemon and minerality. The richness is impressive and the great acidity always maintains a nice tension. The Encruzado Reserva is an impressive white wine with a great price/quality ratio.
The wine receives high ratings year after year. The Encruzados from Falorca from this very cool climate can age beautifully and they have recently started releasing older (beautiful) years (most recently 2015) which they have allowed to mature even longer in their cellars. Drinking from a large (burgundy) glass in his younger years. We will not deny that we also enjoy drinking the wines of Falorca. A very high level, elegance at its best and price-quality is excellent.

The 2021 Encruzado Reserva Quinta da Falorca (it also has 5% Malvasia, because some Malvasia vines are sprinkled in the field blend) was partly (only 15%) aged for two months in new French oak and the rest in stainless steel. It comes in near bone dry and at 12.9% alcohol. The winemaker said this was a low-production, fresh year with good quality. This doesn't project much mid-palate depth, but it is very elegant, bright and expressive. The good acidity should allow this to age a reasonable time. The finesse makes this a strong finisher, even if it is a slow starter. It sneaks up on you in terms of appreciation. It may be better next year.

The 2020 Encruzado Reserva Quinta da Falorca (it also has 5% Malvasia, because some Malvasia vines are sprinkled in the field blend) was partly (only 15%) aged for two months in new French oak and the rest in stainless steel. It comes in near bone dry and at 12.9% alcohol. There was a time when I did not pay much attention to this winery's white wines, but they certainly have gotten it right. They excel most every year now. This has fine concentration and coats the palate beautifully. In the meanwhile, there is a bit of tension and a somewhat juicy finish with a bright demeanor. Granting that both are not here together, I'm not sure this is quite as impressive as the 2019, but this 2020 has many merits of its own. It drinks great. It should hold throughout most of the decade, more or less, and it may yet get better. There were 3,744 bottles and 100 magnums produced from 60-plus-year-old vines.

Located in Pindelos or Silgueiros, Quinta da Falorca is the reference model and top wine house from the Portuguese DĆ£o. No volumes but only quality. It is therefore quite difficult to get a Quinta da Falorca and especially their high-end wines. This is due to a number of factors, namely:
- unprecedented fine wines
- made in very small quantities
- and still very affordable
Quinta da Falorca is one of the secret heroes of the international wine world: winegrowers such as the quality-striving Carlos Figueiredo, who values his native DĆ£o and the local terroir, but also produces world-class wines. Among his wines, wine lovers will find the individuality that is often lost in times of increasing globalization of the wine taste: authentic, traditionally prepared wines with a radiant regional character, made from indigenous grape varieties in a limited edition.
