Persoonlijke gegevens
This Maranges 1er Cru Clos de la Boutière comes from the beautiful year 2020 with the very low yields due to the frost. This 100% Pinot Noir is nothing short of amazing, with aromas of cherries, wood smoke and sweet undertones from the glass. Medium to full-bodied, muscular and concentrated, with rich, powdery tannins and juicy acidity. give it a few years of bottle aging and you will be rewarded.
Domaine Bachelet-Monnot
The Bachelet family is well known in the Côte d'Or, they own plots on some of the most famous vineyards in Burgundy. Despite this, the family had some disagreements about the state of affairs on the domain. The youngest generation, the brothers Marc and Alex, did not panic and meanwhile studied viticulture at the university and did internships elsewhere in France and America. When they returned to Burgundy, their grandfather decided not to give parts of his land to his own sons, but to his two grandsons. From day one, both boys devoted themselves to their new activities with great dedication. 2005 was the first harvest year that Marc and Alex Bachelet worked independently. The gentlemen have in common that they are both huge perfectionists and also very eager to learn. They continuously try to improve and perfect things on the domain and with every visit things have changed again, from the size of the barrels, the duration of the education, to the temperature of the cellar. Besides the great wines they make in the prestigious villages of Puligny and Chassagne, Marc and Alexandre Bachelet also make exemplary wines in Maranges and Santenay.

The 2019 Maranges 1er Cru Clos de la Boutière is terrific, wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, woodsmoke and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, muscular and concentrated, with rich, powdery tannins and succulent acids, it will reward at least a few years' bottle age.
Though quantities are down due to frost, the 2019 vintage has turned out brilliantly at Maranges reference-point Domaine Bachelet-Monnot, where brothers Mark and Alexandre preside over a superb portfolio of serious, structured whites and demonstrative, pleasure-bent reds. Farming organically but without certification, the style here continues to evolve: since 2016, grapes have been crushed before pressing, and the brothers now retain more lees. As has been the case for some time now, white wines ferment and mature in 350-liter barrels. Red wine vinifications are gentle and are followed by maturation in modest percentages of new wood. Everything reviewed here comes warmly recommended.
