The Maranges area, mainly Pinot Noir plus some Chardonnay, forms a link between the Côte-d'Or and the Saône-et-Loire. Its vineyards are intertwined with those of neighboring Santenay, with which it shares a number of well thought-out Premiers Crus. The vineyards usually have a south/southwest orientation and are located at an altitude of 240-400 meters. Depending on the location, some brown limestone soils and lime marls can also be found. The Maranges Blanc Sur le Bois has a delicate golden color in the glass with white flowers in the nose (hawthorn, acacia, honeysuckle) with over the years notes of flint and honey that add to its personality. The Maranges Blanc is a smooth and subtle elegant white Burgundy, fresh fruit, light butter due to aging in oak and above all perfectly balanced.

ABOUT SANTENAY

Located just south of Chassagne Montrachet, Santenay is the southernmost village of Burgundy's famous "Cote D'or" ("Gold Coast") region. Santenay's etymology is most likely connected to the word "Sanctus", which refers to a sacred place before the Christian era. The appellation, with a total of 140 ha of planted vines, consists of three areas, one next to Chassagne, one around the village and one just south of the village. It is mainly a Pinot Noir appellation these days, but the Chardonnay reveals high potential there.
