Description
They are among the secret heroes of the international wine world: winegrowers such as the quality-oriented Carlos Figueiredo, who respects his native Dão and the local terroir, but at the same time also produces wines at world level. In his wines, wine lovers will find the individuality that is often lost in times of increasing globalization of wine taste: authentic, traditionally prepared wines with a radiant regional character, made from indigenous grape varieties in a small edition.
The 2017 Espumante Blanc de Noir from Quinta da Falorca has a very limited and short availability and is made in very small quantities. The Blanc de Noir is made according to Methode Traditionelle like a good Cava or Champagne and is made from 50% Touriga Nacional and 50% Rufete. The grapes are hand-picked and then destemmed and the grapes are lightly bruised. The alcoholic fermentation is given time at Falorca and lasts approximately 30 days at a low temperature (12 degrees) in order to properly 'inject' the freshness and fruit into the must. The wine continues to mature on its yeasts for more than 10 months and then remains in the wine cellars for bottle aging. 1800 bottles of the 2017 Espumante Blanc de Noir have been bottled and of course all bottles are numbered. The wine is dry with a residual sugar of less than 5 grams. The wine has a very fine perlage with beautiful red fruit (cherry, raspberry) and a pleasant bitterness. This dry Portuguese champagne is one of the top in Portugal and the price/quality is unprecedentedly good. We dare to say without batting an eyelid as there are few to no champagnes in the 50-75 euro segment that are better and we are talking about a beautiful blanc de Noir Espumante for less than 30 euros.

The 2017 Bruto Espumante Grande Reserva Blanc de Noirs is an equal blend of Rufete and Touriga Nacional coming in with 4.5 grams of residual sugar, 8.17 of total acidity and 12% alcohol. It was disgorged in May 2022 (the date is on the label) after 48 months on the lees. Beautifully constructed, this has a round mouthfeel but good acidity and a finish that mingles tension and fruit. Tasty as well as structured and complex, this is a winner. This is not imported yet, but it runs around 18 euros in Portugal. It should hold for the rest of the decade, probably more.

Located in Pindelos or Silgueiros, Quinta da Falorca is the reference model and top wine house from the Portuguese Dão. No volumes but only quality. It is therefore quite difficult to get a Quinta da Falorca and especially their high-end wines. This is due to a number of factors, namely:
- unprecedented fine wines
- made in very small quantities
- and still very affordable
