For decades, Château Haut-Bailly has been one of the most consistent and refined names in Pessac-Léognan. The 2025 vintage demonstrates why the château is considered one of the absolute benchmarks of Bordeaux. In a year where all circumstances coincided, a wine emerged that combines precision, elegance, and depth with striking freshness and purity of fruit.

A year in which everything came together

Within Haut-Bailly, 2025 is referred to as a "holistic" vintage. With this, the château refers to a growing season in which all the key factors for a great wine followed one another perfectly. A relatively mild winter replenished water reserves in the soil, after which early and even flowering ensured an excellent start to the season.

From late June, heat and drought prevailed. The old vines of Haut-Bailly, with their deep root systems, proved exceptionally resilient to these conditions. Welcome rainfall at the end of August subsequently provided the grapes with exactly the support needed to fully complete their ripening. The result was fruit with an exceptional balance of concentration, freshness, and phenolic ripeness.

Composition and upbringing

The blend consists of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot. This classic composition emphasizes the identity of Haut-Bailly, with Cabernet Sauvignon providing structure and length, Merlot adding depth and roundness, and Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot bringing extra complexity.

Vinification took place plot by plot in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete tanks. Extraction was deliberately kept gentle to preserve the finesse of the fruit. Subsequently, the wine aged for sixteen months in French oak barrels, 50% of which were new.

Scent and taste

The 2025 opens with a refined and layered aroma of blackcurrants, cherries, blackberries, and blueberries. This is followed by notes of violets, rose petals, graphite, spices, orange peel, and subtle tobacco. As the wine opens up, more and more nuances emerge, without ever becoming heavy or exuberant.

On the palate, the texture stands out above all. The wine possesses an almost silky structure with extremely fine tannins and impressive precision. Ripe fruit, floral notes, and mineral accents blend seamlessly. Despite its concentration, the wine remains energetic and lively, with a long finish in which freshness, finesse, and balance take center stage. Several tasters describe the 2025 as one of the most elegant and complete Haut-Baillys of recent years.

Château Haut-Bailly

Château Haut-Bailly is located in the heart of Pessac-Léognan and ranks among the historic elite of the appellation. The estate is known for its old vines, exceptional gravel soils, and a style that focuses on refinement rather than pure power. Under the leadership of Véronique Sanders, Haut-Bailly has developed into one of Bordeaux's most respected producers, with investments in both the vineyard and the cellar consistently aimed at precision and terroir expression. A textbook example of modern classic Bordeaux

The 2025 Château Haut-Bailly combines everything the château is known for: aromatic complexity, refined tannins, freshness, and exceptional balance. Where some great Bordeaux wines impress with power, Haut-Bailly convinces precisely through harmony and precision. It is a wine that unites the classic elegance of Graves with the purity and energy characteristic of the best modern Bordeaux wines.

Soil research experts have found that Château Haut-Bailly has one of the finest terroirs in the Pessac-Léognan. Great wines are created by the interplay between soil, location, climate and people. The wines have always been good, but have increased even more in quality in recent years. Haut-Bailly is known for its softness and silky texture. The wine has incredible potential for refined tannins and softly sweet, complex fruit nuances.

The vineyard is managed according to strict traditions and chemical herbicides are never used. Spraying is carefully limited, the soil is plowed and weeded with hoes, and the grapes are picked entirely by hand. The vinification takes place in a fermentation chamber with 26 thermo-regulated cement tanks of different sizes (ranging from 30 to 120 hectoliters). These specially adapted barrels ensure that the grapes, grown in different parts of the vineyard, are kept completely separate from the moment they are picked until the vinification.

The winemaking process takes place in cement tanks, while blending is done in stainless steel tanks - a great example of how tradition and modernity go hand in hand at Château Haut-Bailly. Alcoholic fermentation lasts eight to ten days and is followed by maceration. This process takes about three weeks during which the wine never overheats. In this way, a perfectly balanced wine is achieved.
