Herdade do Sobroso is located in Vidigueira in the Alentejo region. This is one of the oldest wine regions in Portugal. In the beautiful Alentejo, Herdade do Sobroso has a perfect location with its vineyards located on the banks of the Guadiana River and its tributary the Rio dos Patos or the River of the Ducks. The trademark is the ducks on the labels. It is the perfect setting for the ripening of the grapes and few vineyards have this luxury and this partly explains why this winery can make very beautiful wines because there is never any water debt. In addition to the fact that there is sufficient water, this region is the only one within the Alentejo that has the influence of the ocean, which ensures healthy ripening. This beautiful Herdade do Sobroso Reserva is a blend of Alicante Boushet & Syrah.

For the Cellar Selection series, the best grapes from selected plots are picked by hand. This very nice rosé wine is a 100% Syrah. The fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel at a very low temperature for a long period of 28-32 days and then aged for 6 months. This is not just any rosé but this is a fabulous wine in our eyes. Almost no sugar (0.3g per liter) and not too excessive in its alcohol (13%), so incomparable with the many strawberry sweet rosés. This is quality with a capital A. The wine has a beautiful, very light color (yes, it could almost have been a Provence rosé). The rosé is fresh, lush and very attractive with raspberry and tropical fruit. The wine has a long and intense aftertaste and a pleasant bitterness in the aftertaste. In one word we would best describe the wine as Elegant. The Sobroso Cellar Selection Rose is gastronomically very versatile and perfect with a Fruit du Mer, beautiful fried Dorade or sea bass in salt crust.

Its location between the river on the south and the hills on the north make the perfect conditions for the ripening of the grapes. Also, besides being inland, this region is the single one in Alentejo with the influence of the coastal weather which provides for cool summer nights thus providing for great thermal amplitudes which improve the ripening.
