Cloudy Bay is New Zealand's benchmark wine brand and the most internationally acclaimed. It is one of the first five wineries from Marlborough, New Zealand's premier wine region (located at the northernmost tip of the South Island). A highly sought-after range of wines, each offering a unique experience. Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc is the international benchmark in its category. On the nose, the Cloudy Bay Chardonnay is bright and refined. The aromas belie the depth and complexity of the palate. The nose is immediately fresh and seductive, with candied lemon, citrus blossom, and subtle spice. The wine has a round mouthfeel, with mild aromas of citrus and stone fruit nestled among layers of cream and hazelnut. The wine has excellent aging potential.

This is a ripe, generously oaked 2023 Chardonnay. This offers liberal vanilla, coconut, baking spices and toasted nuts with rich fruit tones that will have you thinking of nectarines or peaches as it slips down. Its appeal is in its purity and freshness. The 2023 has ripe fruit but it remains defined and finishes with line and focus but then this is Marlborough—lots of sunshine hours but a cool climate, which are plain to see in this wine.

Cloudy Bay is a Marlborough icon, now owned by luxury goods firm LVMH. Almost three-quarters of Cloudy Bay’s 460-hectare production is dedicated to Sauvignon Blanc. The estate Sauvignon remains a good example of classic Marlborough, and in 2024, it again proves its worth. The 2023 Chardonnay shows flamboyance in a ripe, open style with a liberal helping of oak.
