Clos Fourtet is located right opposite the large church of Saint-Emilion. The terroir consists of a clay-loam soil with a lot of lime. The harvest is done manually and, as with all great houses, the first selection takes place in the vineyard. The Clos Fourtet is a blend of predominantly Merlot with a small percentage of both Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon and has matured for 16 months in 60 years. % new and 40% second year French oak barriques.
Colored a deep garnet purple, the Clos Fourtet opens over time with notes of blackberry, plum and wild blueberry, plus notes of forest floor, lavender, baking spices and potpourri. The palate is full and has an amazing texture of soft, gentle tannins and lots of freshness that finishes long and fragrant with berries/spices and some minerality.

The 2023 Clos Fourtet is especially suave and refined this year, wafting from the glass with deep aromas of red berries, licorice, violets and pencil shavings, framed by a nicely integrated patina of new oak. Medium to full-bodied, supple and layered, with a velvety attack that segues into a bright, precise mid-palate, it's pure and lively, concluding with a mineral finish.
