Description
The Montes Alpha Chardonnay is a chic Chardonnay from Chile. Complexity and subtlety go hand in hand. This is the cream of the crop from the ViƱa Montes winery. With a clear, golden yellow color. Seductive aromas and flavors of tropical ripe fruit (pineapple, banana, mango), soft stone fruit (peach, apricot) and fresh grapefruit. In the distance something of asparagus, characteristic of Chardonnay wines from Casablanca. Also some toast, a result of maturation on oak. Richness and freshness, everything is in balance.
Such a full, richer wine is an ultimate food wine. Great with an extensive lunch or a good dinner. This Montes Alpha combines beautifully with salmon tartare, lobster, fresh shellfish, mature cheeses, pasta with cream sauce.

Montes is a leader in Chile and was at the basis of the quality improvement that the country has undergone. Aurelio Montes Sr. was elected the most influential winemaker in Chile.
In 1987, Aurelio Montes and 3 partners took the initiative to start a wine company with the aim of exploiting the full potential of Chile as a wine country and producing the highest possible quality wine. This has been quite successful, Montes is one of the absolute top producers in Chile and Aurelio was recently chosen as the most influential wine man in the country. Montes has five vineyards. Three of them are located in Curico Valley and two in Colchagua Valley, together they cover an area of 600 ha. In 2004, a completely new winery was built in Alpalta, which was set up according to the Chinese Fengh Shui philosophy. In the meantime, Aurelio Jr. has also earned his spurs as a winemaker and together with his father he forms a close and successful team.

The 2022 Chardonnay Montes Alpha is sourced from Casablanca and Leyda in the Coastal Range. Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, this yellow wine presents green apple notes alongside hints of creamed corn and a touch of vanilla. Indulgent and creamy on the palate, the subtly refreshing mouthfeel leads to a plush finish. This is a well-crafted, judiciously oaked coastal Chardonnay.

Aurelio Montes, Douglas Murray, Alfredo Vidaurre and Pedro Grand established the winery in early 1998 with the vision of producing high-end wine that was unavailable in Chile at the time. Three decades later, itās now a private limited company controlled by the Montes, GarcĆ©s Silva, Barros, Murray, Guarachi and Vidaurre families. Montes has established itself as a key producer, commanding some of the highest prices per case in the country. Headquartered in Apalta, they source grapes from various locations, from LimarĆ to as far north as Itata, while waiting for their vineyard planted near the ChiloĆ© canals to mature.
With a portfolio of iconic wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon Montes Alpha, Syrah Montes Folly and CarmĆ©nĆØre Purple Angel, they also have a line of experimental offerings under the Outer Limits label. While the Montes Alpha wines represent the best of the Chilean ripe and indulgent palate, the Outer Limits wines explore different conditions. In the same spirit of exploration, their latest release, Muse, is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux blend from Buin in the Maipo Valley. Bottled with a more nuanced and leaner character, Muse is sold exclusively at La Place.

In 1987 was het Aurelio Montes en 3 partners die het initiatief namen om een wijnbedrijf op te starten met als doel de volledige potentie van Chili als wijnland te benutten en de hoogst mogelijke kwaliteit wijn te produceren. Dat is inmiddels aardig gelukt, Montes is een van de absolute topproducenten in Chili en Aurelio werd recent nog gekozen tot meest invloedrijke wijnman van het land. Montes beschikt over vijf wijngaarden. Drie ervan bevinden zich in Curico Valley en twee in Colchagua Valley, samen beslaan zij een oppervlakte van 600 ha. In 2004 is er in Alpalta een totaal nieuwe winery gebouwd die volgens de Chinese Fengh Shui filosofie is opgezet. Inmiddels heeft ook Aurelio jr. zijn sporen als wijnmaker verdiend en samen met zijn vader vormt hij een hecht en succesvol team.
