2022 Domaine Larue Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Combes

The brothers Didier and Denis (and his son Bruno) Larue have their domaine in Gamay, a hamlet northeast of Saint-Aubin. The vineyards are therefore 'on the good side' of Saint-Aubin, namely on the side of Chassagne and Puligny Montrachet. In addition to Saint-Aubin, the domaine also produces wines from Chassagne and Puligny Montrachet, appellations that appeal more to the imagination, because the best white wines in the world are made there. The family has owned vineyards for several generations, but Didier and Denis have decided to start bottling themselves. In a short time they have acquired a very good reputation with an honest, pure, teroir-oriented style at relatively good prices. The vineyard management is conscientious: short pruning and green harvesting take place, so that the yield per hectare is low. Few pesticides are used and the produce is picked by hand.

This terroir is located in the southern part of Saint Aubin, on the border of the Chassagne Montrachet appellation. The cuvee consists of three south-facing plots, at an altitude of 240 meters. They lie in the small valley or ridge that opens onto the village of Saint-Aubin. The soil here consists of red-colored alluvial deposits.
These chardonnay vines were planted in 1985 and more recently in 2014 and 2019, at a density of 10,000 vines/ha over an area of 71are. Saint-Aubin premier cru Les Combes has a clear and brilliant appearance. The taste is round and full. This wine radiates finesse. Light yellow in the glass with white on the nose and also some riper yellow fruit, nuts and light butter. In the mouth a soft attack, with lots of volume and mild acidity. Nice, long aftertaste.
