Few places in the world can claim to have everything a wine lover could possibly desire. Boschendal Estate is one such unique destination. This magnificent winery is located an hour’s drive from Cape Town, in the picturesque Groot Drakenstein Valley, on the outskirts of Franschhoek.
The 1685 series of Boschendal are without a doubt one of the most popular wines in the Netherlands. This is certainly not only because of the impressive domain, the beautiful restaurant, the famous picnics for those who have been able to visit this, but certainly also because Boschendal has a style that is, with all due respect, a friend to all and we mean this very positively. They know how to create a tone, certainly in the 1685 series, with a balance in which everything is just right.
The Merlot grapes are partly aged in oak barrels and the rest in steel to achieve a beautiful ageing but to retain the freshness and fruitiness of the wine. The Boschendal 1685 Merlot has a fresh attractive ruby red colour in the glass with in the nose tones of ripe mulberries, dark chocolate and soft vanilla tones. In the taste also the mulberries, but this time the more lively red variant, accompanied by elegant tannins, spicy wood tones and freshly ground coffee. The Merlot from Boschendal has a soft seductive aftertaste.
