Description
Tedeschi Amarone delle Valpolicella Marne is a beautiful ruby red wine with hints of vanilla, soft red fruit, such as blackcurrants, cherries and currants. Marne means marl, the wine is named after the soil type and the fact that the vineyards are planted in a semicircle of 180 degrees towards the sun. The taste is strong, full and warm in structure, which is also nicely balanced. The aftertaste confirms the hints of the scent of soft red fruit, this is long lasting and very soft. The scent is sultry and powerful, cherry stones, wide, currants and raisins, figs and plums. The wine is delicious from the start, but after a few years (5 to 10 years) this wine is even better. In September the grapes are picked by hand and placed on plastic trays to dry until January. During this drying process the grapes lose about 30% of their moisture and 25% of their weight. In January the grapes are pressed, after which the fermentation takes place in steel vats at a controlled temperature of 15ºC. The wine then goes into Slovenian oak barrels for 2 years for further maturation, after which the wine is bottled. The maturation process continues in the bottle for at least 6 months in the cellars of the estate.
It is not without reason that this is one of the best Amaraone's and Tedeschi is one of those producers known for its very consistent quality. In terms of price/quality it is almost impossible to find something comparable in the Amarone range.
Marne means marl, the wine is named after the soil type and the fact that the vineyards are planted in a semicircle of 180 degrees towards the sun. Amarone is a dry wine based on dried grapes from the Valpolicella region. Grapes are used for drying that are almost, but not yet fully ripe. They are usually picked at a sugar content that, during any fermentation, an alcohol content and a greater intensity of flavour are achieved. The result is a special dry red wine, particularly full and powerful. Good for no more than about 10% potential alcohol. The skin is then still firm, so that the grapes remain intact during drying. In addition, the acid is then still lively. The sugar content increases through drying, so that a higher alcohol content and a greater intensity of flavour are achieved during fermentation. The result is a special dry red wine, particularly full and powerful.
