2021 Palacios Remondo La Montesa

The Remondo winery Rioja Palacios is a family business that has been linked to wine production for four generations. One of the most notable members of this family is Álvaro Palacios, who also produces wines in Priorat (L'Ermita, Finca Dofí, Les Terrasses) and El Bierzo (Corullón, La Faraona, Petalos). Now with Remondo they have a very modern Rioja house on the map.

The grapes for La Montesa come from three villages: Valtomelloso, Valfrio and Valviejo. The vineyards are located on the foothills of Mount Yerga with an eastern / southeastern exposure. They benefit from cooling due to their high altitude of 550 meters. The wine consists of a blend of 95% garnacha, supplemented with local grape varieties that are also planted in the vineyard (including bobal). All grapes are harvested at the same time. First, a thorough selection of the grapes takes place, then they are destemmed and crushed and go into the fermentation tank. The alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously in stainless steel tanks. The skins remain in contact with juice for about 35 days to extract color, flavor and tannin. The wine is then pressed and matured for 12 months in oak barrels. The wine is clarified, but not filtered. The result is a refined, floral Rioja. Lovers of Burgundy will certainly appreciate this.

The Palacios Remondo la Montesa has a fresh ruby red color in the glass with in the nose tones of cherries, raspberries, orange peel, violets, nutmeg, cedar, earthy. This is a contemporary modern style Rioja, refined and fruity in taste. Smooth in taste, well integrated tannin, aromatic length. Delicious Delicious with paella with chicken and chorizo, or just to drink as it is.
