2021 Clos Mogador Gratallops Rosat

The long-awaited Clos Mogador Rosé will make its appearance at the beginning of 2024. This 2021 vintage has been allowed to mature for 3 years before it can see the light of day. The wine receives the same education as the red Clos Mogador. Only 1 barrel of this wine was made, so it is extremely scarce. As with the Dido Rose , the Escabeces or the Rene Barbier Pedrer Rosat , these are not your average summer roses but are exclusive unique wines such as the Vina Tondonia Rosado Gran Reserva.

The Clos Mogador Gratallops Rosat, as the wine is fully called, is a GRan Reseva and is still somewhat reductive in its young years, so decanting/decanting is certainly recommended, but after some oxygenation and rolling, a great palette of sesame seeds, grapefruit and mineral notes is released ( pebble, lime). This is a dry full rosé with a long, broad aftertaste. The 2021 vintage is the first vintage and is a blend of 50% garnacha, 30% macabeo and 20% carignan which is directly pressed and co-fermented and allowed to mature for 18 months in an old foudre. Rene Barbier searched for this Foudres for a long time because he wanted an old barrel with a lot of history and which has lived and had beautiful wines in it and this eventually became a barrel that he found in the Moselle and this barrel is probably more than 80 years old. This is a rosé or a rosado that will age very well and is a fantastic gastronomic wine that is made for spicy dishes or for beautiful veal, roast chicken, but also great with fish fried in butter.

Vintage 2021 An exceptionally different vintage.
In the first week of the year, a heavy snowfall left a seasoning that lasted throughout the year with light rains every month. After a year of good rainfall that helped to maintain good reserves in the soil. The vegetation cover provided food and shelter for biodiversity, an ally in pest control. The high summer temperatures helped to keep vine diseases at bay. The vineyard arrived very full of vegetation, with 30% more grapes, allowing a good ripening that completely changed the concentration to which we were accustomed. The wines were able to achieve balance much more easily while maintaining good minerality and acidity, bringing freshness and elegance to all of them. The most abundant year in history. A vintage that reflects the weather more than the winemaker.
