2020 Bibi Graetz Testamatta

The charismatic Bibi Graetz has only been active in Tuscany for almost twenty years, but he has already achieved cult status with his pure terroir expressions of local Tuscan grape varieties. For Bibi Graetz, the authenticity of the region is paramount. No international grape varieties here, but 100% Sangiovese in all its glory. Bibi Graetz's wines are the ultimate, pure expressions of terroir and the unique characteristics of a vintage.

The Testamatta comes from vineyards of very old vines spread across the various vineyards cultivated by Bibi Graetz in both the provinces of Siena and Florence in Tuscany. The vineyard(s) are essentially small parcels of postage stamp-sized vines 80 years or older, and each parcel represents specific characteristics, specifically selected for its individual character or uniqueness. After hand-picking and fermentation, the Sangiovese is aged in French oak barriques for 30 months, after which the wine is bottled and undergoes a minimum of six months of bottle aging in Bibi Graetz's cellars. In the glass, the wine has a deep ruby-red color, with an intense and complex bouquet of aromas on the nose, including blueberries, cherries, violets, juniper berries, rosemary, cloves, and cocoa. The palate is elegant, with great finesse and complexity. The wine is powerful, full of fruit, with velvety tannins. The aftertaste is soft, intense and very long lasting.
