Whip-Hand is so named to convey the struggle between vintner and the forces of nature - The winemaker of Redheads finds it a joke against whatever nature throws at him. He kept an eye on the vineyards all year round, so he knew exactly where to pick his Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. We searched for strength, depth and structure, supplemented with a little oak aging. Using old style open top fermenters, the wine was hand-immersed and then aged in large format barrels to promote complexity rather than overtly oaked.
As you would expect from the Whip-Hand, this delivers a powerful, very full bite. Deep dark red with a brick colored edge to indicate its age. Softly roasted blackberries, cassis and plums with some herbs, tobacco and leather that reveal the ripeness of the wine.
After a long, hard day in the vineyards, the Redhead Studio team wants nothing more than a slow-braised beef tenderloin next to their Whip-Hand. The ripeness of the wine with its long-lasting taste needs a matching sauce! If you can spare some, adding a glass of wine to the dish before cooking will take it to a new level!

Redheads Studio winery is located in South Australia in the town of Tanuda, in the Barossa Valley where the dedicated team behind Redheads work tirelessly, from the vine to the bottle and beyond, to ensure the wines can always be in their best condition drunk.
It all started with a few Aussie winemakers who went to France to show the 'old hands' some new tricks there. Australian wine had conquered the world in the 1970s and 1980s. That's why Tony Laithwaite brought some Aussies to France. It was there that the very beginning of RedHead's new viticultural movement was laid.
In a small shed in McLaren Vale, a former Indian restaurant, some winemakers took on the challenge of making their dream come true: making beautiful, creative wines in small volumes with primary focus on quality.
They wanted to make wines without being bothered by all kinds of business worries, which resulted in an explosion of creativity and experiments.
Meanwhile, winery Redheads is making great international progress and they still give young talents the opportunity to let their creativity and talents loose on the best grapes in the region. Redheads Wines says of itself: “A free-spirited, movement liberating the best grapes from the premium labels to make wines with soul, character and personality”
