2017 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru

The historic and emblematic wine of Domaine Ponsot – the grapes come from old vines that are 2/3 in the original climate “Clos de la Roche” (Morey-Saint-Denis) and 1/3 at the foot of the hill in the “Clos des Monts-Luisants”. Grand Cru Clos de la Roche combines power and elegance. Complex and perfectly balanced, it is a great wine for laying down, structured, with extremely silky tannins.

Clos de la Roche (3.2 ha) has vines with an average age of 65 years (Vieille Vignes). Domaine Ponsot produces around 10,000 bottles per year. The soil consists of lean, clayey soil with limestone scree on a base of fine Premeaux and Comblanchien limestone. The grapes are hand-picked, destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled wooden barrels with indigenous yeasts. The wine matures for 18 months in French oak barrels of around 20 years old (never new barrels).
