Description
Veuve Clicquot was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot-Murion, but became famous when his son's widow ('veuve') Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin continued the business in 1805. She was a formidable and innovative woman. Her motto 'only one quality, the finest' is still guiding Veuve Clicquot, the second largest champagne house in the world. Madame Clicquot, La Grande Dame, has created many groundbreaking innovations in the champagne world, such as the first rosé and the first vintage champagnes. She also invented the 'pupitre'; this table with slanted holes allowed the bottle to be positioned in such a way that by regularly turning it, the rémuage, the yeast sediment would sink to the neck.
Every Champagne house has one, a gem from the cellars. For Veuve Clicquot it is La Grade Dame. This delicious Champagne owes its name to the great lady who made Veuve Clicquot great. Because she was one of the first female businesswomen in Europe, she was called La Grande Dame.
The 2015 Veuve Clicquot Brut La Grande Dame champagne is made of 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay, originating from eight historic Grands Crus. The Pinot Noir grapes come from the Montagne de Reims, including Verzenay, Verzy, Ambonnay, Bouzy and Aÿ, while the Chardonnay grapes come from the Côte des Blancs, specifically Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger
Tasting notes:
Color: Bright, golden shade with a fine and lively mousse.
Aromas: On the nose, the wine offers a fresh and mineral bouquet with light floral notes of jasmine and acacia, evolving into fruity nuances of pear and clementine.
Taste: On the palate, the champagne presents a subtle and silky texture, with a delicate balance between freshness and complexity.
This champagne is versatile in food pairing and goes well with dishes such as lobster, oysters, truffle risotto and mature cheeses. Its refined structure and complexity also make it an ideal choice for special occasions and celebrations.
PLEASE NOTE: The La Grande Dame 2015 always comes in 6 different colours. At LVMH we can't choose colours either so if you are looking for a specific colour please contact our Customer Service or pay us a visit. In the Tab: Attachment you will find the images of all colours.

The 2015 Brut La Grande Dame is turning out well today, evoking aromas of spring blossom, spring flowers, lemon oil, spices and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and seamless, it has a deep core of fruit with a lively spine of acidity and a saline, mineral finish.

From: Champagne: 2023 New Releases (Nov 2023)
The 2015 La Grande Dame is bright and nicely focused. There’s good energy driving a core of Pinot Noir fruit. Pear, white flowers, mint, white pepper and lime are nicely delineated. The 2015 is not the most complex Grande Dame I have ever tasted, but it offers plenty of immediacy with no vegetal notes or hard contours that have proven so challenging elsewhere. This is an expertly made Champagne by any measure. Dosage is 6 grams per liter. Disgorged: October, 2021.
