EXPECTED DECEMBER 2024
Château PALMER 2014, TEN YEARS ON from the prestigious Margaux appellation. This is a special vintage, marking both the Château’s 200th anniversary and the first year in which the wine was produced entirely using biodynamic methods. This blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot is a powerful, elegant example of Margaux terroir, with a wonderful balance between fruity intensity and refined tannic structure.
Ratings: 94 Wine Advocate, 95 James Suckling, 95+ Vinous (A. Galloni), 93 Vinous (N. Martin), 94 Jane Anson, 95 Jeb Dunnuck, 97 Decanter, 94 The Wine Independent (L. Perrotti-Brown), 94 Wine Spectator
Characteristics of Château Palmer 2014:
- Tasting notes : The wine has seductive aromas of dark fruits such as blackcurrants and plums, combined with floral notes and hints of graphite, cedar and spices. On the palate the wine offers a silky texture with refined tannins and a long, complex finish.
- 2014 Vintage : The 2014 vintage offered excellent conditions for the grapes to ripen optimally, with a dry and sunny late summer that produced concentrated flavours and a wonderful balance between freshness and power.
- Biodynamic production : The fact that this is the first fully biodynamic vintage reinforces the focus on terroir expression and sustainability. The use of natural processes and minimal intervention results in a wine that is pure and authentic.
- Critics praise the wine for its 'sexy', vibrant character and potential to age beautifully.
- TYON Program : Château Palmer's "Ten Years On" (TYON) program is a unique opportunity for wine lovers to purchase wines that have been kept for ten years in perfect conditions at the château, increasing the scarcity of older vintages and guaranteeing quality.

The 2014 Palmer builds on the promise that it showed in barrel. It is clearly a more understated and nuanced Palmer from winemaker Thomas Duroux this year, but a Margaux with exquisite delineation and precision, hints of blackberry, boysenberry and a touch of pencil box. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin. It feels supple and lithe in the mouth. It will not have the depth and power of the subsequent 2015 Palmer, yet the "flow" is very sensual and the Merlot (45% of the blend) just lends it roundness and a caressing texture. What a beautiful Margaux and I bet it will be deceptively long-lived.

A wine with currants and mineral character on the nose and palate. It’s full-bodied, with silky, polished tannins and a long finish. Very tight and refined now. Tannic. Palmer only made 20 hectoliters of wine a hectare. Like a tightly wound ball of cashmere thread. Try in 2020.

Château Palmer is located in the heart of the Margaux appellation in the Bordeaux wine region. The 66 hectares of vineyards have a gravel soil and the vines overlook the Gironde River. The area with its rich ancient history and nourishing microclimate is a fantastic environment for the vines. Here they can flourish and grow under the passionate care of the people of Château Palmer. Behind every great wine is a great terroir. This is also the case at Château Palmer, which is located on a long strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde. The land is well drained, rich in the deposits of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers. It is difficult soil for agriculture, but exceptional for grapes. Of course, the vines also need good care in order to perform optimally. And that is certainly entrusted to the employees of Château Palmer! Full of passion and love for the vines, they cultivate the demanding terroir. The people of this winery are more than just colleagues. Together they embrace the common core values of Château Palmer and are therefore extremely dynamic, curious, passionate, open-minded and determined. In short, they live for and with the vineyards.
