Description
The Les Petits Epenots vineyard is located just north of the village of Pommard and is considered one of the best Premier Cru parcels in the appellation. The soils here are predominantly clay and limestone, which produces firm, structured wines with a lovely minerality. Wines from this vineyard are known for their aging potential and can develop for decades in the cellar.
Taste profile of the 2005 vintage
The 2005 vintage is considered a legendary vintage in Burgundy due to the excellent weather conditions that produced perfectly ripe grapes and wines with concentration, balance and great aging capacity. This Pommard 1er Cru offers:
- Aromas : Rich and complex aromas of dark fruits such as black cherries, plums and blackberries, complemented by earthy tones, spices and hints of leather and cedar from oak maturation.
- Taste : The wine has a full body with firm but ripe tannins. The taste is powerful, with concentrated fruit tones, subtle spices and a long, complex finish. There is a nice balance between fruit, acids and tannins, which provides an excellent structure.
The 2005 Domaine Joillot Pommard Les Petits Epenots has excellent aging potential. Although ready to drink now, this wine has many years of potential to mature and develop. Expect tertiary aromas such as mushroom, tobacco and underbrush to develop further in the coming years.
Domaine Joillot uses traditional Burgundian winemaking methods, with careful vinification and maturation in French oak barrels. This approach contributes to the complexity and depth of the wines, without overwhelming the typical character of Pinot Noir.
This wine is an excellent choice with rich dishes such as game, braised meats, or hard cheeses, and is particularly popular with Burgundy lovers looking for structured and elegant wines with long aging potential.
