Description
The red wine from Wijngoed Thorn is a 100% Dornfelder. This is a dark red, smooth, elegant wine. It has a full taste with lots of red and black fruit, including raspberry. Matured in old French oak barriques. Small touch of caramel and vanilla. Velvety aftertaste with mild, ripe tannins.
Wijngoed Thorn, located in the picturesque Limburg village of Thorn, is known for its high-quality wines. They now cover over 7 hectares of vineyards. On 10 January 2018, the European Commission formally recognised the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) of the wine-growing region 'Maasvallei Limburg'.
Soil
The vineyard is situated on an old arm of the Meuse and consists of clay, sand and at some depth transitioning into gravel.
Vinification
2/3 is aged in stainless steel tanks. 1/3 is aged in French barriques for at least 6 months.
