2022 Château Lafaurie Peyraguey Sauternes Premier Grand Cru Classé

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey is a very old wine-producing estate of 36 hectares. It is located in the heart of the Sauternes region just outside the village of Bommes. Maisons Rouges (part of Lafaurie-Peyraguey) was a Roman staging post and the oldest stones of the enclosure and the entrance, probably the oldest structure in the commune of Bommes, date from the 13th century. The wealth of remains and archive material preserved at the château bear witness to the rich heritage of Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey: eight centuries of history preserved! Wine has been produced at this château since 1618.

The Lafaurie-Peyraguey is pale lemon-gold in the glass. On the nose it has graceful notes of lemon zest, candied ginger, honey and with some oxygen after swirling we also smell roasted almonds, orange blossom. On the palate this great and affordable wine is rich, spicy and oh so decadent on the palate with lots of sweet, unctuous layers with a lovely fattiness to the texture, and finishes long with a refreshing lift. Handsome wine in which the freshness and sweetness balance each other out wonderfully and this makes it a handsome wine.
