Description
Château la Négly is located in the Languedoc, on the banks of the Étang de Pissévache on the foothills of the La Clape Massif. Négly is owned by the Paux-Rosset family, and daughter Marion makes the wine, assisted by oenologist Claude Gros. The great diversity of soils, height difference and location (up to ten meters from the tide's edge!) ensures a great variety in style and strength, but there is one characteristic that unites all wines: great precision and a strong degree of minerality. The quality of Négly has not gone unnoticed by Parker: he has repeatedly given high ratings (up to 99 points) to various Négly wines!
The La Négly La Falaise Rouge is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre coming from a vineyard from the famous Appelation La Clape literally located on the high tide line of the sea. The wine is fermented and matured in barriques of (partly) French oak. In the glass the wine has an intense ruby red color. In the nose aromas of blackberries, cassis, coffee, chocolate and black olives. The taste is full and powerful, very concentrated with a very long, soft aftertaste.
Competition Mâcon 2019 - Gold medal (2017)
Robert Parker, July 2019 - 92 pts (2018)
Jancis Robinson, July 2019 - 15.5/20 pts (2017)

Aged in a combination of foudres and 300-liter barrels, the 2018 La Clape la Falaise reveals hints of cracked pepper, mixed berries and licorice on the nose. It's full-bodied and expansive in the mouth, rich and mouthfilling without being heavy or overdone, buttressed by silky tannins and ample depth of fruit. It's a lovely effort that should drink well for 4-5 years.
This estate in the La Clape appellation has made a huge reputation as one of the top red wine producers in the Languedoc, crafting massive yet balanced and even somewhat elegant wines from the region's classic grape varieties. The Paux-Rosset family, with help from consultant Claude Gros, consistently makes terrific wine, with the big mystery being how so many of the descriptors can add up to something that sounds like dessert, yet the wines come across as savory and easy to drink. If I knew how they were able to do it, I'd start my own consulting business. Instead, I'm just left to enjoy and marvel at their results. Don't overlook the affiliated properties, listed separately: Clos des Truffiers, Château la Vernède (including a 2019 red made without added sulfites), and Domaine de Boède.

The quality of Négly has not gone unnoticed by Parker either: he has repeatedly awarded high (up to 99 points) ratings to various wines from Négly!
