Description
Yealands makes wines in Marlborough on the northeast side of the South Island. The vineyard for Southbank is far inland where the Waihopai River meets the Wairau River, the vineyards for The Crossings are further south and also far inland on the Awatere River. This far inland it is dry and cool with big differences between day and night temperatures. This ensures expressive and fresh wines. Miles Dineen and his team work in a certified sustainable manner. For example, sheep graze in the vineyard, so that less mowing is required and the soil automatically receives new nutrition. Other examples: bio-fuels are used, no pesticides and insecticides are used but natural opponents are promoted, the grape residues are composted and distributed in the vineyard.
The Crossing Sauvignon Blanc is pale yellow in the glass with a green tinge. Expressive on the nose with gooseberries, passion fruit, grape fruit, boxwood and cut grass. In the mouth a soft attack, very juicy and concentrated but with sufficient counterbalance of freshness. The likely reason for the great popularity of this New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon blanc is, in addition to the pleasant price for a quality wine, also the balance. It is expressive and concentrated yet wonderfully fresh.

Wijnhuis
In 2008, a wild and rugged stretch of coastline on the north-eastern tip of New Zealand’s South Island became home to one of the most sustainable wineries in the world. They opened the doors to their state-of-the-art, custom-built winery on 08.08.08, and became the first winery in the world to be Toitū carbonzero certified from inception.
Seaview Vineyard, the home of Yealands Wines, was once a rugged, rolling stretch of pastoral land that was thought to be too wild, windswept and undulating for growing grapes. Never being shy of a challenge we saw huge potential in this sensational coastal location. Today, Seaview Vineyard is one of the most dramatic and exciting vineyards in Marlborough, its folded landscape creating micro climates of growing conditions that provide thrilling variety across their varietals.
Peter Yealands
The Founder Peter Yealands was known for his irrepressible imagination, coupled with an inexhaustible energy and an unswerving passion that propelled this third generation Marlborough lad through an incredible career of leading-edge innovation across the marine, forestry and viticulture industries. He entered into a well-earned retirement in 2018.
Vision
From installing the largest solar panel array on our winery roof, to bailing and burning our vine prunings to heat our water, our vision is to push boundaries, think innovatively and to produce some of the most exceptional, and sustainable, wines around.
