Description
Château Meyney comes from the Saint-Estèphe appellation and has a vineyard of approximately 50ha in a fantastic location just across the Gironde, with neighbors Chateau Montrose and Chateau Calon Ségur. They have also completely switched to production according to organic principles and since the 2020 vintage, all diseases have been combated with organic products and pesticides are no longer used.
The 2020 Château Meyney is a robust and complex red wine that gives slow tears to the glass. Still restrained in its youth, but already seductive scent of black and red fruit with blueberry, violet, cedar and cocoa. Concentrated, fully ripe and already quite 'round' in taste with masses of sweet black currants, cassis, cherries and cranberries. Subtle hints of cedar and cocoa from the oak barrel. The wine has a velvety salty-sweet aftertaste. Complex, seductive top Saint-Estèphe from a rich year. The wines have matured for 18 months in oak and the 2020 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 52%, Merlot 35%, Petit Verdot 13%

A strong performance for this improving estate, the 2020 Meyney unwinds in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums, violets, cigar box and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, with a pure and fleshy core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins and lively acids, it has retained energy and balance in this warm vintage.

From: Thrice Is Nice: Bordeaux 2020 in Bottle (Feb 2023)
The 2020 Meyney has a very estuarine infused bouquet insofar that you could imagine looking out over the Gironde Estuary on some overcast winter's day. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very well balanced with an elegant bead of acidity. Plenty of freshness and focus towards the finish, this is a splendid Meyney that continues it good run of form.

The 2020 Meyney turned out beautifully. Fresh, vibrant and full of character, the 2020 impresses with its energy and delineation. Dark cherry, rose petal, blood orange, sage, mint and white pepper all race out of the glass. The 2020 is bold and yet refined. There is certainly plenty to admire.

This is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc, created in 1662. The estate belonged to the Luetkens family for several generations and was then taken over by Mr. Désiré Cordier in 1919. In 2004, CA Grands Crus, a subsidiary of the Groupe Crédit Agricole, acquired Château Meyney. Determined to take this excellent cru to the top of its potential. An improvement plan has been drawn up for the entire estate. It is supervised today by Anne Le Naour, the technical director, and the advisor-oenologist, Hubert de Bouärd.
Beautifully perched on a hill overlooking the Gironde estuary, the Château is located in the middle of a 51-hectare vineyard block. A number of vineyards are even located directly on the estuary. Here is a remarkable plot, where the drainage is less good. Planted with petit verdot, 70-year-old vines. This plot has a relatively large share in the final Grand Vin, with spiciness, pepper and something animal.
The vines have an average age of 35 to 40 years, divided between 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. The vineyard is planted on Garonne gravel. As with Pétrus, a layer of blue clay about 3 meters thick lies at a depth of 2.6 meters below the surface. These remarkable natural factors give the wine an exceptional richness without being heavy. Great gourmet wines that are surprisingly elegant for their richness and structure!
