Description
A vintage with all the hallmarks of the great years. The freshness and balance of the vintage are combined with dazzling fruit and a velvety texture. This vintage was characterized by quite extreme weather conditions. Spring was particularly wet,
but mild weather in late May-early June ensured good flowering. July brought two heat waves, followed in both cases by favorable rain. The summer was sunny with a classic Bordeaux August. A fantastic late season allowed the Cabernets' tannins to continue to mature and reach optimum ripeness. The white wines present an exceptional quality. The cool August period produced excellently balanced grapes that beautifully emphasize the aromatic profiles.
Malartic white wines are traditionally known as great cellaring wines, developing a complex aromatic palette and excellent minerality over the years. They are clean, precise, well-structured wines, with a rich range of aromas and flavours, and a certain roundness accompanied by a wonderful liveliness. Vintage after vintage, they are characterized by balance and elegance. They belong to the jewels of Bordeaux.
The Château Malartic-Lagravière Pessac-Léognan Blanc (Grand Cru Classé de Graves) is a blend of Sauvignon 83% and Sémillon 17% which has aged sur lie in oak for 14 months. The freshness and balance of this vintage combined with the brilliance of the fruit and velvety texture with an ample yet complex tannin structure shows the true signature of Malartic's. Aromas of grilled pineapple, cloves, lemon zest, lime and mango. White pepper, crushed stone and also some cedar. It is medium to full-bodied with bright acidity. Layered and very long. Seriously white. Needs time to open to show its true potential Drinking from 2023.

The 2020 Malartic Lagraviere Blanc leaps from the glass with invigorating notes of lime blossoms, lemon meringue pie and green mango, followed by hints of wet slate, green apples and wild sage. The medium-bodied palate has a racy backbone and loads of citrus and mineral layers, finishing with a peppery kick.
The tentative blend is 71.8% Sauvignon and 28.2% Sémillon. Only 30% of the total production will be bottled as grand vin, representing just 7,500 bottles. The alcohol is 14% this year.
The estate has chosen a new bottle for the grand cru and second vin, highlighted by an engraved ship, the symbol of the estate. The 2020 vintage will be the first one in this brand-new bottle.

Janeanson.com – Jane Anson - 2019 In Bottle: Pessac-Léognan and Graves – January 2022 94 Strikes a balance between flint and creamy stone fruits, with pulses of fennel that add just the right amount of bitterness. Great momentum through the palate, this is really an excellent wine full of life and vivacity, feels skilful and makes you want to go back for more. Harvest September 4 to 16. Vvwine.ch – Adrian Van Velsen – Arrivée Bordeaux 2019 – January 2022 93 (13,5%. 2022-2032 jancisrobinson.com - Julia Harding MW & Jancis Robinson - UGC 2019s in bottlle, whites – Décember 2021 15.5 76,1% Sauvignon, 23,9% Sémillon. Peachy citrus and woody too, more cedar than oak. That cedar/herbal flavour on the palate as well. A bit clenched, certainly fresh but not a lot of depth in the middel. (JH) 13,5%. Drink 2023 - 2026 Vinum : World of Bordeaux - Trockene Weisse aus Pessac-Léognan – Rolf Bichsel - September 2021 18 Auch der Weisswein notiert eine Klasse besser als "en primeur": von grosser Mineralitat, Dichte und Rasse, zarte Bitternote im langen Ausklang; Klasse! Wine-chronicles.com – Panos Kakaviatos – 2019 From the barrel – September 2020 93-95 A very fine white indeed, combining veritable elegance with orange rind freshness delivered with mid-palate opulence. The finish is long and smooth. Starting from the 2019 vintage, vinification consultancy has been handed to Eric Boissenot, who is bringing more elegance to the wine. And, another bargain alert, for super fine dry white Bordeaux, at under €40 in Europe.

Ch. Malartic Lagravière, together with Ch. Smith Haut Lafitte, Dom. de Chevalier and Ch. Haut Bailly is one of the leaders in the Pessac Léognan appellation. Thanks to the Belgian owner Alfred-Alexandre Bonnie, who invested immensely, and the advice of Michel Rolland, the cru has improved spectacularly over the last 5 years. The magnificent terroir located in the heart of Léognan naturally also plays a major role.
