Description
Château Léoville Poyferré is a prestigious winery located in Saint Julien. The vineyard has 80 hectares of land and has followed an ambitious restructuring program for more than 20 years. The Moulin Riche is the 2nd wine of this winery. Both are owned by Didier Cuvelier, who vinifies two different St. Juliens here with two different styles. With its lighter consistency and smoother tannins, Ch. Moulin Riche more accessible in his youth. The 2020 Moulin Riche is a blend of 48% cabernet sauvignon, 29% merlot and 23% petit verdot.
This 2nd wine from Château Léoville Poyferré is an elegant bordeaux, not too heavy and more accessible than its great farmer the Léoville Poyferré. The Moulin Riche is a beautiful St. Julien with a nice power that contains a lot of ripe, crispy, juicy fruit that is deep and present in layers. The whole tastes round, soft and at the same time nice and fresh and elegant, as befits a good St. Julien. The finale is also long and refined, fruity and fresh.

From: Bordeaux 2020: Saving the Best for Last (Feb 2023)
The 2020 Moulin Riche is fabulous. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot notes are dialed up, giving the 2020 tons of dark fruit and savory character. Merlot adds a more suave dimension to balance out the blend. Deep, layered and wonderfully expressive, Moulin Riche is superb. There's so much exuberance here, but also tempered by the freshness of the year.

In the heart of the Médoc, Château Léoville Poyferré has always been one of the most prestigious wineries. There was once a single domain called Léoville that was famous throughout the region. In the course of history it has come into the possession of different families through heirs and major events. In 1865 the domain came into the hands of the bankers Baron d'Erlanger and Armand Lalande. They had to contend with setbacks, in the form of the grape aphid and mildew epidemics. Today the castle belongs to the Cuvelier family. They have invested enormously since the 1980s with extraordinary results. Today the château belongs to the top of the Saint-Julien.
