Description
Château d'Issan is one of the most beautiful buildings in the Médoc and rightly bears the name 'Château'. The beautiful 17th century architecture can be found not only in the chateau itself, but also in the wine cellars. The history of wine itself is equally rich. The French and English royal houses served this wine at weddings and parties and the same applied to the Austrian court. Issan's motto can be found on the chic gold label: “Regum mensis aris que deorum”.
The 2020 Château d'Issan Margaux Grand Cru Classé jumps out of the bottle with aromas of sweet berries and plums mixed with violets, orange zest and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, lively and beautifully concentrated, with lively acidity, powdery tannins and a seamless, elegant profile, it is a charming, perfumed wine that will give a wide drinking window (until 2060+). The 2020 D'Issan is a blend of .55% cabernet sauvignon, 39% merlot, 3% cabernet franc, 2% petit verdot and 1% malbec.
FACT: Under the tab: Attachment you will find the official fact sheet and we will send it to you digitally when you order this wine. It is also worth mentioning that we buy the Bordeaux directly and never through intermediaries because we do not know all the journeys the wine has made and how it has been treated. The wines come from the cellars in the Chateau directly to our conditioned Warehouse in Dordrecht.

The 2020 D'Issan is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec, aging in French oak barriques, 50% new. It has an alcohol of 13.29%, a pH of 3.71 and an IPT (tannin index) of 73. Displaying an opaque purple-black color, it has vibrant notes of Bing cherries, boysenberries, ripe redcurrants and juicy black plums, plus hints of pencil shavings, wild thyme, lavender and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate has impressive energy with crunchy red and black fruits and compelling tension, framed by fine-grained tannins, finishing long and mineral laced.

The 2020 d'Issan is a gorgeous, wonderfully complete wine. Blueberry, sage, dried herbs, menthol, lavender and licorice are all beautifully knit together. Medium in body, with notable depth and freshness, Issan is all class. Silky tannins round out the long, vibrant finish. The 2020 d'Issan is the first vintage that incorporates Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec to complement the traditional Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the blend.

Before the tables of kings and the altars of the gods. For the current director, Emmanuel Cruse, the history is of course important, but for him it is mainly about the quality of the wines. Under Emmanuel, huge investments were made in the quality of the vineyards and in modern cellar equipment. This troisième grand cru classé from Margaux was brought back to the top of the appellation under his inspiring leadership. The vineyard, measuring 30 hectares, is located on the edge of the Gironde. So perfectly situated. Since 2013, the Cruse family has sold 50% of the property to Jacky Lorenzetti (Ch. Pedesclaux & Ch. Lilian Ladouys), the remaining 50% remains with the Cruse family.
