Description
A vintage with all the hallmarks of the great years The freshness and balance of the vintage are combined with dazzling fruit and a velvety texture. This vintage was marked by quite extreme weather conditions. The spring was particularly wet,
but mild weather in late May-early June ensured good flowering. July brought two heat waves, both followed by favourable rains. The summer was sunny with a classic Bordeaux August. Thanks to a fantastic late season, the tannins of the Cabernets were able to continue to ripen and reach optimum ripeness. The white wines present an exceptional quality. The cool August period produced excellently balanced grapes that beautifully emphasise the aromatic profiles.
The 2019 vintage of the Malartic Lagraviere Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Classé de Graves is a blend of 55.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41.3% Merlot and 2.8% Cabernet Franc. The Château Malartic-Lagravière Rouge has very complex aromas of dark berries, mushrooms, earth, flowers and incense with some mineral notes. Full bodied on the palate with very fine, refined tannins. The finish is very, very long and persistent with subtle and complex flavours. This ensures beauty for decades. Give it a little more time to mature further (from 2025).

Aromas of raspberries, blackcurrants, charcoal and forest floor preface the 2019 Malartic Lagravière, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and charming wine that's lively and elegant, built around bright acids and fine, powdery tannins. This has turned out nicely in bottle and shows good potential for improvement in the cellar.

From: 2019 Bordeaux from Bottle: The Two Towers (Feb 2022)
The 2019 Malartic Lagravière is a showy, voluptuous wine. Racy and explosive, the 2019 certainly makes a strong first impression. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, mocha, new leather, spice and licorice abound. As always, Malartic is a pretty forward, succulent Pessac-Léognan, but the 2019 is a bit strict today. Whether that is the vintage speaking or a slight change in style, we will see.

From: Omne Trium Perfectum: Bordeaux 2019s in Bottle (Feb 2022)
The 2019 Malartic Lagravière presents a refined nose of blackberry, raspberry, cedar and light estuarine aromas, very well defined and focused. The palate is framed by fine-grained tannins, and the pure blackberry and raspberry notes are laced with blood orange. Maybe just a little more granular in texture than before, but still wonderfully balanced, with great length and nobility. This will age with style. A sophisticated Pessac-Léognan with a lot of potential.

Bold and luscious to its core, the 2019 Malartic Lagravière certainly makes a statement. Raspberry jam, pomegranate, mint, blood orange, spice and dried flowers build as the 2019 shows off its generous curves and sumptuous personality. Malartic Lagravière is not exactly subtle, but it sure is delicious and so inviting.

From: Uncertain Smile: Bordeaux 2019 (Jun 2020)
The 2019 Malartic Lagravière was picked from 17 September to 11 October at 46hl/ha and sees 65% new French oak for an intended 18 months. It has a lovely bouquet with disarming blackberry, briary and subtle marine scents, just a whiff of brine in the background from the distant Gironde estuary. The palate is medium-bodied with extremely fine tannins that frame the layers of blackberry, raspberry and orange rind notes. Satin-like in texture, this feels reassuringly long in the mouth with a dab of white pepper on the aftertaste. What an outstanding Malartic from the Bonnie family. Tasted from three bottles.

95-97 “This rich, smoky wine has finely textured tannins to go with its deliciously juicy black fruits. The Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend sings of black currant, all framed in firm tannins that promise good long-term aging potential.”

Ch. Malartic Lagravière, together with Ch. Smith Haut Lafitte, Dom. de Chevalier and Ch. Haut Bailly is one of the leaders in the Pessac Léognan appellation. Thanks to the Belgian owner Alfred-Alexandre Bonnie, who invested immensely, and the advice of Michel Rolland, the cru has improved spectacularly over the last 5 years. The magnificent terroir located in the heart of Léognan naturally also plays a major role.
