The 2019 Fusco is made with Mencía from Ribeira Sacra, from many small plots all in the zone of Chantada. It matured in stainless steel and was bottled unoaked, looking for freshness and drinkability. Its 12.5% alcohol reflects the profile of the variety without any makeup. It's fresh and easy to drink, expressive, clean and very pleasant. 13,000 bottles produced.
Xurxo Alba Padín planted a 0.3-hectare plot next to O Pereiro in 2021, and in 2020 he planted one hectare in a plot that he purchased in 2017 that was previously planted with eucalyptus trees. He asked for the change from eucalyptus to vines. Next to that new plot, he also has over four more hectares that he purchased in 2019 from three brothers and other relatives. There are hardly any five-hectare vineyards in the Salnés Valley, so he's going to have one of the largest vineyards in the zone. So far, he has only planted one hectare, but in the end, it will be more than five hectares planted in a single plot. And it's an amazing place in Castrelo, a parish of Cambados by the sea in a zone where there were tile factories in the past.
Talking about whites, 2020 is his favorite vintage since 2015 (he also likes 2017). He talks about similar vintages in 2018 and 2019, with volume and structure, but in 2020 there is one extra degree of tension and acidity. He also noticed a change of climate in 2016, warm and dry years of very high ripeness, but in 2021 they go back to the style of before, the coolest vintage since 2014. 2021 has more structure and volume than 2014.
When it comes to reds, warmer vintages seem to be better here, and in 2019 there's a jump in quality from 2018. They are much more balanced and complete.
