Description
This is Top Wines from Montalcino by Giodo - The Giodo Brunello di Montalcino is a real stunner and a beautiful Brunello, showing an extraordinary purity of Sangiovese character. When young, Giodo's Brunello reveals cherry and floral aromas , wild berries, camphor ash and delicate spices. This wine shows a compressed sense of intensity that quickly expands once you've lifted the proverbial lid off the box. As it breathes in air and gains volume, it also leaves a deeper impression on your nose and palate. It closes with a simple note of sweet cherry that makes for a perfect postscript. Full of incredibly integrated tannins that look like they're not there. But they are and are all-encompassing on the palate. Great depth and agility. Just floats in the mouth. The 2018 is a vintage that has a long life ahead of it. Don't drink too early. This is a 1.5 liter magnum. Even tastier and has an even longer drinking window.
Giodo was founded by the renowned Italian winemaker Carlo Ferrini. The name is a tribute to his parents Giovanna and Donetallo. Giodo stands for a quest for excellence obtained by improving every detail. The history of Giodo in Montalcino begins in 2002, when Carlo Ferrini, after years of research, finally identified his first hectare to purchase in the prestigious Brunello appellation; Today his winery, halfway between Sant'Angelo in Colle and Sant'Antimo, rests on six hectares of vineyards. In terms of aspect, altitude and soil types, the location is perfect for viticulture. A majestic row of cypresses attracts visitors to this almost hidden, magical place, while the vines dedicated to Brunello di Montalcino and to IGT Toscana enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view over the winding hills of Montalcino to the massif of Monte Amiata. This is a crazy bottle of no less than 6 liters. Even more delicious and with an even longer drinking window .

This wine was tasted in a preview capacity as it won't hit the market until the beginning of next year. Tasted at the Giodo winery in one of the most remote and beautiful spots in the appellation surrounded by forests and wide open panoramas, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino gives us a promising taste of what we can expect from this warm vintage. The wine delivers ripe, but delicate aromas of cassis and dark cherry with shades of lilac, violet and crushed limestone. The tannins are present and well managed. Carlo Ferrini's Brunello promises a long aging trajectory.

Giodo was founded by the renowned Italian winemaker Carlo Ferrini. The name is a tribute to his parents Giovanna and Donetallo. Giodo represents a quest for excellence obtained by improving every detail. A mosaic of many small puzzle pieces to achieve the very best result. Meanwhile Carlo has transferred his passion to his daughter Bianca.
“Giodo encapsulates above all my own history with Sangiovese, my first great love. Its name is a tribute to my parents, Giovanna and Donatello, to whom I owe everything.” Carlo Ferrinic
The history of Giodo in Montalcino begins in 2002, when Carlo Ferrini, after years of research, finally identified his first hectare to purchase in the prestigious Brunello designation; Today, halfway between Sant'Angelo in Colle and Sant'Antimo, his winery rests on six hectares of vineyard. In terms of aspect, elevation and soil types, the location is perfect for viticulture. A majestic row of cypress trees lures visitors to this almost hidden, magical place, while the vines dedicated to Brunello di Montalcino and to IGT Toscana enjoy breathtaking panoramic views over the serpentine hills of Montalcino to the massif of Monte Amiata. The final artistic touch is the picturesque olive grove that yields the Giodo Toscano IGP olive oil.
Everything at Giodo is underpinned by the concept of uncompromising quality. The whole process starts with the selection of clones and vines that are ideal for producing wines that are elegant, balanced and of impressive length. Every decision, every individual detail, both in the vineyard and in the wine cellar, is of the utmost importance and deserves full and scrupulous attention. Those small details are the indispensable tesserae that make up the mosaic that makes Carlo Ferrini's experience and expertise absolutely unique, the creation that successfully transferred his extraordinary passion to his daughter Bianca.
