Description
The roots of Brane Cantenac can be traced back to the beginning of the 18th century. At the time, it belonged to the Gorce family and was known as Château Gorce (and for a while as Château Gorce Guy). Today, the Château consists of 90 hectares of vineyards in the Margaux appellation. The largest vineyard covers 45 hectares and is located next to the Château on the plateau de Brane. The 2nd vineyard (22 hectares) is located further north near Soussans. The other vineyards are further south near Arsac. The terroir consists mainly of gravel, but to a lesser extent also of sand and clay. This Margaux consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Baron de Brane is the second wine of Château Brane Cantenac.
The Baron de Brane has a deep red color with purple hues. Intense and mainly red fruit dominated aromas on the nose. There is also a hint of mint and flowers and licorice. The taste is intense yet smooth and has a fresh and long aftertaste. This wine is well balanced and can age well. Nice full and soft taste, a lot of flexibility, but the cabernet also gives it backbone, fresh acidity and some tannins
Parker on the 2018:
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Baron de Brane is scented of dried herbs, damp soil and fallen leaves over warm raspberries, kirsch and blackcurrants. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm, herbal and chewy with a lively lift.

The 2016 Baron de Brane is a blend of 65% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc. It has a very pure and charming bouquet with brambly red fruit, cedar and pencil shavings, very assured for a Deuxième Vin. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannin on the entry, the fruit a little darker than the nose suggests, segueing into a well-defined second half with brown spices and hints of leather. This is an intriguing Baron de Brane.
