Naia comes from the village of La Seca, which is considered the Grand Cru of this region. The grapes come from more than 90-130 year old pre-phylloxera vines. The vineyard has a terroir that contains a lot of marl, sand and lime and some vines are on their own roots and have not had phylloxera. The Naia Verdejo Viñas Viejas 'Náiades' Rueda is made from 100% verdejo. After the first manual harvest, the first cold (temperature controlled) maceration with whole grapes. The grapes are then lightly crushed and the wine fermented in barriques with regular bâtonnage and matured for 8-9 months in French oak. The Naiades is light gold in color in the glass and this beautiful Verdejo shows a seductive nose of vanilla, honey, spices, pear and melon. In the mouth the wood is beautifully integrated and at the same time provides a creamy texture to the wine and has a fabulous aftertaste. This is a sturdy white, slightly oily wine and is an almost ultimate accompaniment to scampi and lobster.

Bodegas Naia is located in the La Seca, a region considered the Grand Cru in Rueda. The bodega was founded in 2002, with the aim of making great white wines. Since then, the unique base has been home to very old native Verdejo, some even from the pre-philloxeric period. The vineyard is 21.4 hectares and contains vines that are more than a century old. The treasure of the Bodegas Naia lies in the vineyards, because in the beginning the winery could buy old plots of up to 130 years. The most important grape variety is of course the verdejo, but they also grow a small part of sauvignon blanc. They hired Cristina Bosch as an oenologist. She was apprenticed to the master of verdejo, Eulogio Calleja. It is now a fact that we have succeeded in making the grand cru among the Verdejos and this is also confirmed by the many high ratings that the wines receive

The bodega's assortment now includes four wines: the château wine Naia, the two young wines S-Naia and K-Naia and the showpiece Náiades. The latter is one of the best Spanish white wines. At Grandcruwijnen.nl we carry the chateau wine (the Naia Naia) that has received rave reviews in the Rueda tasting of the Volkskrant (July 2015) and of course the great Naiades which is made from plots of 100+ years old.
