Description
Since 1871, when Don Maximiano Errázuriz (originally Basque) bought the vineyard, this company has been working from father to son, according to traditional methods. Chile's wine culture has been around for centuries, brought over by the conquistadors in the 16th century, but Chile has received significant new impetus in the last five years through capital injections from America and Spain, as well as the know-how of passionate winemakers.
Many have already looked obliquely at this mysterious black bottle. The showpiece of Errázuriz is under the cork and we would like to introduce you to it. The absolute collector's item. 82% Cabernet Sauvignon supplemented with Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Shiraz. The color is intense ruby-purple red. Cherries, cassis, truffles and blackcurrants are framed by a hint of black pepper and subtle nuances of chocolate and cedar. On the palate this is reflected with a fine velvety tannin that ensures a bright future for this great wine. The final is grand.

Professional Reviews
Parker
The 2016 Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve is a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller amounts of Malbec, Carmenère and Cabernet Franc from their estate vineyards in Panquehue. It fermented in stainless steel vats and matured in French oak barrels (65% new) for 22 months. It's an ultra classical Aconcagua Cabernet-based blend with good ripeness while keeping the freshness, and it has generous oak that does not overwhelm but makes the wine softer and spicier. It has some fine-grained, slightly dusty tannins. The very classical label is very coherent with an updated classical blend. 78,000 bottles produced. It was bottled between February and April 2018 in three homogeneous lots.

Chile deserves the top prize of all 'new' wine countries. Mainly due to the fact that the wines of this country have found a connection with the taste of many wine lovers, wherever in the world, at a record pace. There are of course special reasons for this success. The climate and soil type are ideal here and the classic European grape varieties were already present. Yet it is mainly thanks to the vision of people like Eduardo Chadwick-Errázuriz that these benefits were so quickly translated into resounding success. Exactly 140 years ago, Maximiano Errázuriz planted his vineyard in Panquehue, at the foot of the highest mountain in the Andes chain. The cool fall winds, proximity to the Aconcagua River and annual rainfall of only 25 cm make this an ideal area for wine growing. His great-grandson Eduardo Chadwick-Errázuriz has added a number of plots since 1990; they are planted with the grape varieties that best suit the specific soil and microclimate. As a result, in addition to the classic cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay, the merlot, shiraz and carmenère also benefit from this earthly paradise for wine growing. Viña Errázuriz has since grown to become the absolute top of Chilean wine producers.
