Description
Château Doisy Védrines is located in the French town of Barsac, a commune in the Gironde department in the Graves region. Château Doisy Védrines is a beautiful domain in the Sauternes. The terroir consists of clay with cobalt and pebbles. The château has planted 25 hectares of vineyard with Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle and produces exclusively white wines. The vines are on average about 40 years old. The grapes are picked manually and strictly selected. The winemaker uses a very long fermentation without additives. The wine is certified organic and is aged in French oak barrels for at least 6 years.
The Château Doisy-Védrines from 1986 gives harmony to the nose, so it takes time to relax. Apricot, honey and a hint of marmalade, although it lacks the purity of later vintages and seems a bit alcoholic. The palate is slightly better with sharp notes of marmalade and quince, although there is a hint of dryness towards the finish.

Tasted at the Doisy-Védrines vertical at the château, the splendid 1990 Château Doisy-Védrines has a lucid gold colour. It has a lovely Barsac nose of orange cut marmalade, quince and honey, great definition, with touches of hazelnut and linseed coming through. The palate is powerful, a little low in acidity but very pure and with great definition and harmony. There are ripe oranges, honey, apricot with a touch of quince forming the long, persistent finish that maintains freshness right to the end. This is a great Doisy-Védrines. Tasted September 2008.

Vibrant, complex nose of honey and apple; quite delicate for 1990. Racy and harmonious in the mouth, in a distinctly Barsac style. Apple and petrol notes call to mind riesling. Seems quite youthfully unevolved and likely to develop slowly. Finishes very long, spicy and subtle.
