Omschrijving
De Valenciso Reserva is een 100% pure Tempranillo van de kalkrijke gronden rond Haro uit de Rioja Alta. Men kiest bij Compañía Bodeguera de Valenciso bewust voor kwaliteit ipv kwantiteit dus vindt er aggresieve snoei plaats (opbrengst slechts 38hl per hectare). Dit unieke project in Rioja Alta behelste in het begin maar één doel,; het maken van één wijn van enkel tempranillo en dan een uitstekende Rioja Reserva op de markt brengen. Deze jaargang kenmerkt zich door een zeer lange rijping. Zelfs de malolactische gisting duurde tot na de zomer volgend op de oogst. De wijn heeft 17 maanden opvoeding gehad in Franse eiken vaten, waarvan een derde nieuw eiken. De wijn heeft subtiele en elegante tonen van rood en zwart fruit, cederhout, nootmuskaat en vanille. Het kenmerk dat het meeste opvalt is hier het evenwicht, iets waar Valenciso heel goed in is. nl het produceren van klassiek geproportioneerd wijnen met de juiste hoeveelheid van fruit, zuurgraad en hout. Dit is een wijn die de komende 10 alleen nog maar beter kan worden.

The balanced, young and elegant 2016 Reserva mixes characteristics from classical and more modern Rioja reds, fruit and herbs, spicy oak and some complexity and a medium-bodied palate with very good freshness and fine tannins. It's riper than you think at 14.5% alcohol and has a pH of 3.7. It fermented in concrete and matured in French barrels for 18 months. 100,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in autumn 2020.
Luis Valentín and Carmen Enciso are Valenciso, which is a combination of both of their last names. They have farmed their 31 hectares of vines organically since 2017, but their wines do not carry certification. They produce some 150,000 bottles that age in 1,500 barriques. They are one of the modern-classical or classical-modern Rioja producers.

A more layered and refined Rioja here that shows fragrant berries, black cherries, plums, peppercorns, pencil shavings and graphite. Juicy and linear on the palate with a medium body and structured but creamy tannins. Turns more expansive in the finish with excellent length. Very classy and almost a bit Bordelais. Delicious already, but should hold well for the next five to seven years.

The 2016 Reserva is 100% Tempranillo sourced from the Ollauri-Haro area in Rioja, having undergone an 18-month aging process in French oak barrels. Garnet in color, it reveals balsamic notes, complemented by blackberry and strawberry aromas against an oaky backdrop. Indulgent and ample, it features fine-grained tannins, offering a flavorful red wine experience and a lingering fruity finish. This is a well-calibrated expression of Rioja.

Winemakers with over 25 years of experience in La Rioja. In 1998 they revived an old winery and gave it the name Valenciso which is a combination of the two surnames (Valentin and Enciso). The vineyards and bodega are located in Ollauri, 4 km from Haro in the north of La Rioja Alta. An area that differs from the rest of the Rioja by a climate with Atlantic influences and Mediterranean heat. The vineyards are located on a clay-calcareous terroir, so ideal for growing grapes. Compañía Bodeguera de Valenciso works on a small scale and authentic with a lot of passion. The wine continues to receive international high ratings with 90+ ratings from Penin and Parker.
